Camping Wash Stand

PVC Dishwashing StationGrowing up my family camped a lot. We are starting to camp with our kiddos now and looking for things that can make longer camping trips easier and more fun. This camping wash stand definitely will make washing dishes – or even clothes – easier. No more bending over a picnic table, you can customize this stand to be whatever height you prefer. Made entirely of PVC, this light-weight construction can be assembled and reassembled on sight, saving space when packing.

Here are the plans for the PVC Washing Station and other PVC camping accessories.

Ham & Cheese Pretzel Rolls

ham and cheese pretzelWe have a new favorite recipe! Ham and Cheese Pretzels! I found the recipe from Seeded at the Table. The kids love these and the adults love them too! For an interesting twist, instead of cutting these into bites, try making them sandwich sized and serving for dinner. These also make great party food!

Melted Bead Accessories

DSC_9189_thumbI am always on the lookout for kid-friendly crafts and this tutorial from 36th Avenue on making Melted Bead accessoriess is great! While the things shown in the tutorial are mostly accessories for girls, use your  imagination to make things for boys. My son wants a Mickey Mouse head jibbit for our trip to Disney.

Flag Day Ideas

Today is Flag Day. How about celebrating by teaching the kids some fun facts about our national flag or making some great Flag Shirtsflag crafts. Here are some ideas:

Saturday Project: Denim Placemats

6a0120a8a2f331970b015432de7346970c-800wiWe have a bin full of old “scrap” jeans. These are pants that knees have ripped out on or hems have frayed or have some other condition that make them non-wearable. But most of their fabric is still good and I am always looking for projects to do with them. Today’s project will use up a bunch of the jeans…by making placemats. Today’s Nest has great instructions for making denim placemats from jeans.

If you don’t have enough scrap jeans, consider hitting a thrift store or yard sale, where you can often pick them up for $2 a pair.

ALTERNATE IDEA: If you don’t want to do all the sewing or have full denim placemats consider adding just the pocket to existing placemats. Either pick up some inexpensive ones or use what you already have. Simply remove the back pockets from jeans and sew them on to existing placemats.

The Best Frosting Ever

I have been experimenting with frosting recipes for 10 years. You name it, I have tried it in frosting. But I have finally stumbled upon what my family calls the best frosting ever – Almond Cream Cheese frosting. This simple frosting can be used on cinnamon rolls, chocolate cakes, orange cupcakes, and just about any other cake or pastry.

  • 4 ounces (1/4 cup) cream cheese, softened
  • 4 ounces (1/4 cup) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups confectioners sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract

Beat cream cheese and butter with a paddle beater until combined. Add powdered sugar and continue beating until combined. Add vanilla and almond. Switch to whisking attachment and beat until light and fluffy 2-4 minutes.

This recipe makes enough for a cake or a batch of cinnamon rolls. It smells like heaven!
