The best thing you can do is put a piece of furniture – console table, bookcase, etc – to be a landing strip. Click on the link for details of how to set up your own landing strip. This will be the first place you stop when you come in and the last place you check when you leave the house.
Use baskets or drawers to keep items like purses and chargers organized. Be sure you have a place to charge your phone in this space. Include mail shorting help such as a small trash can for junk mail and a specific place for bills and filing.
If your front hall closet is small, add a coat rack/tree or hooks on the wall for guest coats and bags.
Add a “go bag” or basket by the landing strip. This will be where you keep items that you need to take with you the next time you leave the house. Put library books that you are returning, the casserole pan you need to give back to a friends, the reusable grocery bags that need to go back in the trunk, etc. in this basket or bag. Then, the next time you leave the house grab the bag (or items).
